description | The corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) stimulation test is used to evaluate the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and help diagnose adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH or corticotropin) dependent Cushing's disease. CRH stimulation cannot distinguish between Cushing's and pseudo-Cushing's. During this procedure, baseline cortisol measurements are taken followed by administration of 1 ug/kg of CRH, after which cortisol is measured again at timed intervals. In patients with Cushing's, cortisol concentrations at 30 and 45 minutes post CRH administration should be at least 20% higher than the mean baseline value.[NCBI Books: NBK278940] The timing for baseline and post-CRH cortisol measurements vary depending on local protocol. ACTH levels may also be measured [LOINC: 91707-0] as part of a CRH stimulation test.

time | Pt = Point in time: To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
system | Ser/Plas Ser = Serum Plas = Plasma
scale | Qn = Quantitative: The result of the test is a numeric value that relates to a continuous numeric scale. Reported either as an integer, a ratio, a real number, or a range. The test result value may optionally contain a relational operator from the set {<=, <, >, >=}. Valid values for a quantitative test are of the form "7", "-7", "7.4", "-7.4", "7.8912", "0.125", "<10", "<10.15", ">12000", 1-10, 1:256
